Smartphone Tips: Android smartphones are most used in India. From UPI payment to online banking, social media and office work, everything depends on this small device today. But due to this popularity, Android phones also become more targets of cyber criminals. The good thing is that there is no need to run to the service center every time there is a problem with the phone. If you know how to recognize the right signs, then you can understand the problem to a great extent yourself.
What is Malware and why are more Android users trapped?
Malware is dangerous software that silently enters your phone and steals data, monitors your activities or damages the phone. Android phones are more targeted because people download apps from other websites besides Play Store. In India, it is common to click on third-party apps, mod APKs and unknown links received on WhatsApp or SMS and this is where the danger begins.
The phone itself starts giving danger signals
If your phone has suddenly become slow, has started heating up without any reason or is repeatedly hanging and crashing, then do not take it lightly. Similarly, when the battery starts draining rapidly even when the phone is not in use, it can also be a big indication of the presence of malware.
Take a look at the apps present in the phone
Go to Settings of your Android phone and open the Apps section and carefully check all the installed apps. If you see an app that you have never downloaded, or whose name sounds strange and you don’t understand its function, then be careful. Malware often disguises itself as fake tools, fake updates or simple flashlight apps. If in doubt, search the name of the app on the internet and get information.
Malware can also be detected through permission settings
The permissions given to apps also tell a lot. Go to Settings and open Privacy and then Permission Manager. Here, see which app is asking for access to the camera, microphone, contacts or messages. If a simple calculator app asks for permission to read call logs or messages, then it is a clear danger sign and such an app should be removed immediately.
Keep an eye on mobile data
Malware often silently consumes data in the background. Check Data Usage under Network & Internet in Settings. Be alert if any app is using more data than required. Apart from this, if pop-up advertisements start appearing repeatedly in the phone even without using the internet, then understand that adware may be present in the phone.
Why is a security app important?
Android phones must have a reliable security or antivirus app. Always install trusted apps from the Google Play Store and keep Google Play Protect on. Security apps downloaded from an unknown website can themselves become a threat.
when things get worse
If your phone automatically starts sending messages, making calls or the banking app suddenly stops working, then do not delay. Remove suspicious apps, update your phone’s software, and change your important passwords immediately. If the problem still does not go away, then taking a backup of the data and doing a factory reset can be the safest solution.
