Why is RAM needed in the phone?
RAM means Random Memory Access. This is the temporary workspace of the phone. The apps, tabs and all processes open in the phone run on RAM only. Having more RAM means that you can open more apps and processes in the phone simultaneously. That means multitasking becomes easier when there is more RAM. RAM temporarily holds as much data as is required by the operating system and open apps in the phone. When the phone is turned off, the data in RAM gets erased.
How much RAM should a phone have?
If you are buying a new phone and want to use it for basic tasks, then choose the option with at least 8GB. With this, the phone will not get stuck while running apps, taking photos or multitasking. Now the RAM requirement for full Android service has become at least 6GB. Therefore, a little more space is good, but if you want to use AI features then you will need more RAM. If you are using an Android phone then it is possible that even 12GB RAM may be less for you. This is because Google’s Gemini Intelligence requires at least 12GB RAM and latest processor. Gemini Intelligence features complete on-device processes, so more RAM is required.
