Selfie video for Google Account: Now you will be able to log in to your Google account with the help of selfie video also. The company has brought a new sign-in and recovery option, in which your identity will be verified through selfie video. If the account is not recovered by other methods then users will be able to get access to it through their selfie videos. Apart from this, it can also be used to access many other features and services of Google. However, this feature has not yet been rolled out everywhere and for every device.
The feature will work as an additional option for account recovery.
Google has said that this feature will work as an additional recovery option along with passkey and recovery contacts. To setup this, you must be signed in to your Google account. If you are not signed in, you will not be able to add selfie videos.
How to add selfie video?
- This feature has not been rolled out for all users. Therefore, first of all you have to check eligibility. You can type g.co/signin-selfie in the browser to see if this option is rolled out for your device or not. If this feature is available then you will see the option to take short video of the face.
- To enroll in this feature, open the selfie video setup page and follow Google’s instructions. During the entire process, keep looking into the device’s camera and make head movements following the instructions. During this, the camera will capture your face from multiple angles. After this your selfie video will be saved securely in your Google account.
When will recorded video be useful?
If later you are not able to access your Google account from your device or have forgotten the password etc., then Google will give you the option of selfie verification to recover your account. Then you will be asked to record a fresh video. Then Google will compare that recording with the saved video and after identity verification, will give you access to the account.
Privacy will also be taken care of
Google has said that this video will be stored only after the consent of the user. It will remain completely encrypted at the time of storage and can be deleted at any time. Google has said that it has also implemented many security checks to prevent spoofing.
