Samsung Silicon-Carbon Battery: Samsung recently launched its Galaxy foldable phones. In this, the company has used silicon-carbon battery for the first time. This means that Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 have silicon-carbon batteries instead of lithium-ion. Let us tell you that many companies were already using this battery technology and now Samsung has also registered its name in this list. Silicon-carbon batteries can store more energy in less space. Therefore, without increasing the size of smartphones, companies have started providing battery packs with higher capacity.
What is silicon-carbon battery?
Silicon-carbon batteries are a new type of battery cell that come with silicon anodes, while lithium-ion batteries have graphite anodes. Silicon batteries have high energy density, which means they can store more energy in less space. Lithium batteries have an energy density of 250-300 Wh/kg grams, while silicon-carbon batteries fall in the 400-500 Wh/kg range.

Samsung has taken advantage of this technology in its most premium phone Z Fold 8 Ultra. It has a 5,000mAh battery, which is 600mAh larger than the 4,400mAh battery found in its older model Galaxy Z Fold 7. That means the battery capacity has increased by 14 percent, while the company has reduced the thickness of this model from 4.2mm to 4.1mm and both models have the same weight of 215 grams. That means Samsung has increased the capacity with the help of silicon-carbon battery without increasing the weight and thickness of the phone. The company has also said that it has taken full care of the performance, longevity and safety of the battery.
What is the battery capacity of other models?
While the Fold 8 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery, the Fold 8 has a 4,800mAh battery pack and the Flip 8 has a 4,300mAh battery pack. These come with bigger batteries than their older models, but in terms of capacity, companies like Honor and Motorola have crossed the 6,000mAh mark. It is believed that providing silicon battery in Galaxy foldable phone is just the beginning for Samsung. In future, the company can increase the silicon percentage in this battery and like other companies, it will launch models with bigger batteries in the market.
