Action on Online Gambling Apps: The central government has once again taken strict action against online gambling and betting. In the latest action, the government has blocked 242 online links which were related to illegal betting and gambling. According to the report, the purpose of this step is to especially protect the youth from economic losses and social evils caused by these platforms.
More than 7,800 gambling websites banned so far
According to government data, so far more than 7,800 illegal online gambling and betting websites have been shut down across the country. Since the implementation of new laws related to online gaming last year, such actions have increased. Due to the new rules, the pressure on digital gaming platforms to follow the law has also increased significantly.
Action became strict after new law
After the implementation of the Online Gaming Act, enforcement agencies have got more powers. Now immediate action can be taken against platforms running without approval or violating Indian laws. For this reason, action against illegal betting sites has continuously intensified in recent months.

The government says that illegal gambling sites not only cause loss of money, but also promote addiction, mental stress and social problems. Especially the youth become their easiest prey. Blocking these websites is part of the government’s effort to make the digital space more secure and responsible.

Continuous action is being taken from 2022 till now
According to the information, from the year 2022 till now, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has ordered the closure of more than 1,400 illegal betting and gambling websites and apps. This entire campaign is linked to the new Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which has been approved by the Parliament and is now awaiting the President’s approval.
