Chatting on WhatsApp and Instagram will be more secure, Meta brings new tools to prevent scams

Now chatting on Meta’s platforms including WhatsApp and Instagram is going to be more secure. The company has launched new features to protect people from scams. These features have been specially designed keeping senior citizens in mind. Let us tell you that for some time now, cases of online scams have increased rapidly and scammers are targeting senior citizens more.

This feature came for WhatsApp

Now on WhatsApp, if a user shares the screen with an unknown caller during a video call, he will see an alert. In cases like digital arrest etc., scammers target people only through video calls. In such a situation, this can be a useful feature. Talking about Messenger, the company is creating an AI powered scam detection tool for chats. In this, users will be able to send the chat with a new contact for AI review. If any danger is found in this, the user will be given guidance accordingly.

Passkey support available for all meta platforms

Meta has rolled out Passkey support for all its platforms including Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp. In this, users can sign in through device-level authentication like face verification or fingerprint. Meta has also appealed to people to use security checkup on Facebook and Instagram and privacy checkup on WhatsApp.

Will run the campaign in collaboration with the government

Meta said that it will run the ‘Save Scam’ campaign in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications. In this, senior citizens will be told how to identify scams and avoid them through video content. Apart from this, the company will also support the Saksham Senior campaign to conduct digital literacy and safety sessions among senior citizens.
