According to the report of Times of India, police officials have warned that a file named RTO Traffic Challan.apk is spreading rapidly on WhatsApp. As soon as you download it, it infects your phone and gives hackers access to your personal information, bank details, password and OTP.

Cyber security agency Cyble Rail has termed it as a very dangerous virus which can monitor every activity of the phone through remote access. In recent times, many such cases have been registered in which people’s accounts were emptied.

The fraudsters first send this file in the name of RTO challan from an unknown number. The user downloads it considering it to be genuine, and this proves to be the biggest mistake. As soon as the app is installed, hackers get access to your mobile’s SMS, contacts, files, camera and mic. Then they secretly keep an eye on your digital activities and withdraw money from your bank account as soon as they get the right opportunity.

The easiest way to avoid this is to never click on any unknown link or APK file. If you really want to check the challan, then only use the government website like Parivahan.gov.in or your state’s RTO site. Always keep the Unknown Sources option turned off in your phone’s settings so that no app can be installed without your permission.

It is no longer safe to trust every message received on WhatsApp. Fraudsters are constantly trying to trap people in new ways. So be careful and think twice before opening any suspicious link because one click can put your entire digital world at risk.
