Ghatak Drone: Today’s war is gradually shifting from ground to sky where fighter jets and drones are playing the most important role. At a time when China is working rapidly on its advanced fighter jets and new drone technology, India is also busy taking its strength to a new level. In this direction, Defense Research and Development Organization i.e. DRDO is developing a special type of pilotless fighter aircraft which has been named Ghatak. According to the name, this drone can prove to be very dangerous for the enemy.
stealth design
The biggest feature of ‘Ghatak’ is its modern stealth design. It has been designed in such a way that it does not look like traditional planes. Its flying-wing structure and hidden engine intake make it extremely difficult to detect on radar. This is the reason why it can easily enter the enemy’s strong air defense areas and carry out its mission without being caught.
Ability to attack up to 1000 kilometers away
The strength of this drone lies not only in its flying stealthily, but also in its ability to attack at long distances. In the year 2022, its flight and aerodynamic capabilities have been successfully tested through its SWiFT (Stealth Wing Flying Testbed) prototype. Ghatak is being designed in such a way that it can also work with fighter jets. It will be able to perform missions in coordination with Sukhoi Su-30MKI, HAL Tejas Mk2 and the upcoming Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft.
It may be similar to a light fighter plane in size but its flight duration and endurance will be much greater. With a maximum takeoff weight of about 13 tonnes and a fuel capacity of about 3.7 tonnes, it can fly continuously for about 8 hours. Not only this, it can accurately target targets at a distance of more than 1000 kilometers.
New power will be provided by indigenous engine
There is a plan to run this drone with a modified version of the Kaveri engine being developed specifically in India, which is currently undergoing testing at an advanced level. The use of indigenous technology will not only increase its capability but will also strengthen India’s defense self-reliance.
Important part of future air power
Ghatak is not just a drone but is going to become an important part of India’s upcoming military strategy. Its stealth capability, long range attack power and modern technology can make it a game-changer in future wars. In the coming times, this may prove to give a new direction to India’s air power.
