These features require expensive components, which increases the total cost of the phone.

Many important parts used in making smartphones are imported from abroad. In recent years, prices of semiconductors, displays and other electronic components have increased due to challenges related to the global supply chain.
Apart from this, shipping costs, raw material prices and fluctuations in foreign currency exchange rates also increase the expenses of companies. Despite increased assembly in India, many premium parts are still sourced from countries like China, Taiwan and South Korea.
Long software updates are also a reason
Earlier smartphone companies used to provide software updates only for a limited period of time, but now the situation has changed. Many brands are promising to provide Android updates and security patches for 3 to 7 years.
Companies require additional engineering teams and resources to maintain long-term software support. This investment is also ultimately included in the price of the product.
AI features are becoming the biggest attraction
AI has now become the biggest trend in the smartphone industry. Companies are prominently introducing AI based features in their new devices. Photo editing, live translation, smart virtual assistant, AI search summary and many other intelligent features are now becoming a part of smartphones. These features require powerful hardware and cloud infrastructure to run efficiently, which increases development costs.

A few years ago, budget smartphones were limited to calling, messaging and basic apps only. But today, even in low-cost phones, features like high refresh rate display, large battery, fast charging, multiple cameras and 5G support are available. That means now the definition of budget smartphone has completely changed. Even low cost phones have become more advanced than before.
